I installed this 5-1/4", two-way set of JL Audio speakers in my 2000 Buick Century as part of an upgrade from the GM stock system. I installed a bottom-of-the-line Kenwood head unit with two 6x9" JL Audio speakers in the rear deck behind the back seats. These speakers were installed in the front doors. Following the installation, I demoed the new system.
And was amazed at the sonic quality for the money! JL Audio produces an excellent budget-minded speaker that faithfully reproduces sound cleanly and accurately. But, that stated, don't expect these little guys to reproduce the low end by themselves. They do a fine job on their own, but they're not designed for "heavy lifting." The 6x9" speakers I installed in the rear deck do a much better job at dishing out the low frequencies. These 5-1/4" speakers are a very good supportive pair to bring the sonic theater to the forefront, but shouldn't be expected to provide heart-throbbing levels of sound.
Where they do excel is in clean and accurate reproduction of detail without and harsh additives, like scratchy high end and unbalanced mid-high frequencies. Don't expect to get an abundance of low-end reproduction though. What it does provide is well reproduced, but could stand to be supplemented with additional drivers more capable of reproducing low frequencies.
If you're looking for a high-quality set of 5-1/4" speakers at a reasonable price, these speakers should definitely be placed on your list. If you're also upgrading a set of 6x9" in the rear, as I did, I'd highly recommend purchasing a set of JL Audio VR690-CXi speakers. The two play very well together and, for the money, I received more than I expected!
